Radio and Agriculture

Radio has been a leading source of information for farmers in much of sub-Saharan Africa for decades. Battery-powered radios are particularly accessible to the population, because they are affordable, don’t rely on electricity, and don’t require their audience to be literate. This toolkit proposes tapping into the prevalence of radio to create a two-way communication between radio stations and listeners for the benefit of rural smallholder farmers.

As a USAID product, the design of this toolkit had to adhere to strict brand guidelines. The challenge was to flex the layouts so they are engaging and easily digestible, while remaining brand compliant.
